JoannieJ, a vibrant UK-based singer, songwriter, and presenter, brings soulful energy and a deep love for music to the airwaves. Originally from Birmingham, she has been performing since the 1980s and continues to share her passion through both live performance and broadcasting.
Formerly a DJ/Presenter on an internet radio station, JoannieJ is now part of the UGN Jamz Radio family, where she blends uplifting vibes with inspiring conversation and music that touches the soul. Her experience as a recording artist, with releases including her debut EP Introducing and reggae single You Bring Me Joy, adds authenticity and depth to her presenting style.
JoannieJ believes in the power of music to unite and uplift, and her mission is to celebrate creativity, positivity, and the message within her art.
JoannieJ, also known as Joan Thompson, is a Birmingham-born singer, songwriter, and performer with a passion for music that began at just 12. Starting in 1983, performing live covers, she has since developed a unique sound, blending soul, reggae, and R&B influences.
Her debut mini–EP Introducing (2020) featured collaborations with acclaimed vocalist Chloe Josephine, and her reggae single You Bring Me Joy (2023) — produced by Jack Reuben — connected her with respected Jamaican artists Bunny General, Halanoi, and Inezi.
Beyond her solo career, JoannieJ performs backing vocals for Dr Charmain Elliott, has worked with The Giants and Bring It and Sing It, and is one half of SistasWithSoul, holding a residency at Gras Restaurant in Welwyn Garden City while seeking further performance opportunities.
She is also a DJ/Presenter on LWR Radio (London World Radio), hosting a weekly reggae show. Alongside her music and broadcasting work, JoannieJ is pursuing modelling, embracing her unique style and presence. She continues to inspire with the belief that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
